About

I completed my Master's degree in Social Work a little over a year ago. I completed my education in Chicago and have done all of my "paid" work in rural Wisconsin. It's quite the change. My experience is with children; all kinds of children! I love my work and love talking about my work. I love the possibility for social change and compassion.

Being a social worker means that I have A LOT of student debt and I make very little money. I love to shop at thrift stores and create with my hands. Working in a field like social work, there sometimes is not much opportunity to see the fruits of one's labor. I love the satisfaction of putting forth work and effort and seeing a completed project. It gives me great satisfaction. I love turning something old into something that is mine.

I married my awesome husband in September of 2013. He's great. Being a wife is something that I had never planned for myself. I always say that the one thing I know about myself for certain is that I know nothing certainly. I am glad to surprise myself and am working to figure out how to fill the role of the best wife ever.

My husband and I began eating vegan about two years ago. We were pretty darn successful for about a year but have since expanded some of our rules. I had begun losing my hair about 10 months into eating vegan and I decided to incorporate some animal products back into my diet. Don't worry, my hair came back very quickly! We continue to try to maintain an ethical way of eating by eating as locally and humanely as possible. Most of the recipes I post will be vegan or will have easy vegan substitutes.

I love to be active. I want to be more active. I think that a healthy lifestyle is the most efficient way to feel good internally and externally. If possible, I'd much prefer to be active outdoors. I hike with my husband, who is much more skilled than I. We love to camp too! Unfortunately, as much as I love being outdoors, I hate being cold. Living in Wisconsin means that I have to spend more time than I'd like at the gym.

I really like clothes. I really like shoes. I love putting on a dress and getting fancy. I know it's stereotypical. I don't care.
